During the 2010 Iditarod, Paul Gebhardt carried the names of fallen US Servicemen to help honor the families of these brave souls. The Tragedy Assistance Program (TAPS) is a powerful network for military widows, and it was a privilege to be a part of their gathering in Alaska in March 2010. View Video Here.

Following is an excerpt from one of Evy's 2010 Iditarod Race Updates -
"...We also had a tremendous honor today with the Ceremonial Start with both Paul and Kristy carrying some special flags on their sleds. For Paul, LTC Richard Leary, LTC Richard Wersel, CPT Tyler Swisher, SSG Juantrea Bradley, CW4 Keith Yoakum, and LCDR Andrew Lamorie all shared the journey today in spirit. Their names were printed on the deep purple of the US Military Puple Heart, and on the miles of trail, these flags fluttered in the wind. Prior to the start, we shared the emotional journey with the widows of these fallen soldiers as they visited Paul's sled. They are in Anchorage this week as part of a national gathering of TAPS (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors). Kristy also carried similar flags, hers bearing the names of SSG Wesley Hunter, SGT Geroge Kellum, MAJ John Ruocco, SSG Paul Smith, and TSGT Thomas Wright. With our own daughter engaged to a US Airman, it was a program that really hit home with Paul and I, and we are so honored to have had the opportunity to be a part of this. I would like to think, that as Paul and Kristy embark on their journey in the days ahead now, that the fortitude, courage and strength that these soldiers had in their work defending our freedoms, will transcend to the dogs in a positive way...."
